Bienvenue!

Welcome to Montreal, the second largest city in Canada right after Toronto, located in the province of Quebec at the Saint Lawrence River. Montreal is also considered as the second largest French-speaking city in the world since it was founded by French colonialist in 1642.

It is really easy and convenient to explore Montreal downtown just by walking. It took me about 7 blocks to get to the port of Montreal and the Vieux-Montréal, the so called “Old Montreal” with its cobbled streets that really reminded me of some typical ancient German pedestrian zone.

There’s a certain peacefulness to Montreal that i really enjoyed, especially sitting by the bassin Bonsecours, opposite the marché Bonsecours which was a former market hall. The pictures below show the reflection of the city skyline in the calm water.

Seeking a great view over Mont-Royal, I would recommend visiting the 233 meter high mountain in the city itself near the McGill University. Montreal basically was named after “Mount Royal”.

Merci and Au revoir!

Untilverysoon!
