Welcome to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia with its remarkable and famous 452m high Petronas Twin Towers and the Menara KL (TV Tower).
It’s my 4th time visiting Kuala Lumpur. The previous 3times i have been traveling here from Singapore, which is just a 4 hour bus ride away to the South. Anyways, it feels so thrilling every time I return back to this city to discover many new things.
To better understand Malaysia, we need to know that it is a melting pot society of the Malay, Chinese an Indian culture. Its diversity probably can be experienced in 1000 different ways. To me, the best way to explore a culture is to always start with their cuisine. Okay you got me – i totally admit that i am biased, because the Malaysian cuisine belongs to my top favorite ones.
Malay cuisine bears many similarities to the Indonesian cuisine – the so called “Padang Food” – with its regional traditions from the Place of Padang in West-Sumatra. It has also been influenced by Chinese, Indian, Thai and many other cultures throughout history.
My favorite dish is the traditional “Rendang”, which is spicy beef cooked in coconut milk and chili gravy – as you can see in one of the picture below. Another spicy food that i would always recommend is the Sambal Kangkung Belacan. It is water spinach, stir fried with the essential shrimp paste known as “belacan”. Served together with great coconut flavored rice – the so called “nasi” – I will tell you that your taste will truly skyrocket.
Served together with an authentic “Teh Tarik”, which is a Malaysian traditional hot tea beverage with condensed sweet milk that is being poured several times between two vessels to create the frothy top, just gives you a first great indulgence of the big variety of the Malaysian cuisine.
Mouth watered, i am already looking forward to visit here soon again!
